P.U. Thomas was born to Uthuppan and Mariamma in the Vellancheril family in Kidangoor as the youngest of four children.
When he was one year old, he lost his father. After his father’s death, his mother moved back to her hometown of Neerikad and settled in Pinakuzhathil to raise the kids along with her two brothers and their families.
He married Mariamma from the Pulikathottil family in Peroor in 1949, and recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. He was a kind, loving husband and father to five children, all of whom would move to America. By trade, he was a farmer and professional painting contractor.
In his religious life, he was a devout Catholic and a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Neerikad. He attended mass daily and taught his children from a young age to pray daily and keep God first in their lives. He moved to Florida in 2008 with his wife Mariamma to be with his children. Even in his old age and poor health, he participated in daily masses either in person or via television, and prayed the Rosary twice daily.
He is survived by his wife, Mariamma, his children, Mathew & Marykutty Plamkutathil, Tiny & Aleyamma Mattathilparambil, Babychan & Annie Paranickal, Tomy & Gracy Puthooppallil, and Roy & Elcy Pinakuzhathil, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Refreshments will be served following the burial at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 5301 SW 100th Avenue, Cooper City, FL 33328.
